Abstract

Many teachers still do not implement innovative learning models, which is the cause of problems in implementing the learning activities carried out so far. This causes students to be less successful or fail in writing news texts. Several factors that influence students' success in writing news texts include students who are not active in group discussions and lack of interest and motivation to learn. Researchers used an innovative learning approach in this study. The Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model teaches students to think critically and have problem solving skills. Students are asked to participate actively in group discussions and present assignments or problems found in learning to write letters, learning activities will be more effective and enjoyable. This research aims to improve students' writing in Indonesian language subjects, especially news text writing material for class VII students at SMP Negeri 7 Ruteng. These results prove that there is an increase from cycle one to cycle 2. This shows that applying the PBL learning model in learning to write news texts for class VII Ruteng Middle School is very effective, because the average in cycle 1 is 81.54 while in cycle 2 it is 89.38. This shows that there is an increase in learning.
