Abstract

Language is a systematic tool for conveying an idea or feeling using agreed signs, sounds, gestures or signs that contain understandable meaning. Apart from functioning as a main means of communication, language is also a skill that only humans possess, this is what differentiates interactions between other creatures on this earth. This research aims to (1) describe the forms of expressive speech acts in the comments column of the Instagram account @amandamanopo, (2) describe the function of expressive speech acts in the comments column of the Instagram account @amandamanopo. This research uses qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The expressive speech act of saying thank you contains 5 data. The expressive speech act of congratulating contains 5 data. The expressive speech act of praising contains 6 data. The expressive speech act of criticizing contains 7 data. The expressive speech act of saying condolences has 3 data. The expressive speech act of apologizing has 2 data.
