This study aims to describe students’ needs in learning English grammar as a foundation for the development of appropriate instructional media. The study focuses on the results of a needs analysis conducted in a senior high school context. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed. Data were collected through classroom observations and semi-structured interviews with the English teacher. The findings reveal that students experience persistent difficulties in understanding basic grammatical structures due to abstract explanations, limited contextualization, and minimal use of visual learning media. Grammar learning is perceived as monotonous and cognitively demanding, which negatively affects students’ motivation. The integration of comic strip–based media is identified as a relevant pedagogical solution because it combines visual representation and contextual dialogue. These findings highlight the importance of aligning instructional media with students’ learning characteristics to enhance meaningful grammar learning.
